213 West Olympia Avenue

 J. K. McClelland built this two-story structure during the boom years of the  1920's.  Hollow tile, a fired brick smaller than that used today, shows in portions of the building.  Mr. McClelland used the space for a bookstore.  Both new and used schoolbooks were sold here on consignment after WWII.  Sundries included old postcards for collectors and many other odds and ends.  Mr. McClelland built and lived in the house next door with his wife and children.  When the two-story space was needed for another business in the 1950's the left-hand part of the downstairs was used as a garage for a hearse, and the right-hand space was a casket showroom and an office for the funeral personnel.  The second floor space was divided into living quarters and rented to winter visitors.

In the early 2000s,  the Pressellers purchased the building and operated a popular delicatessen and gallery. Later it was occupied by several restaurants including Table 209, Carmelo’s, and Mint Thai.

607 Palm Avenue

Built by Hugh MacGibbon, a postmaster in Punta Gorda's early days,  in 1920 as a two-story Colonial Revival with a rectangular plan built up off the ground and situated on piers.  Contributing to the Punta Gorda Historical Residential District the details of the MacGibbon house include a simple classical frontispiece and boxed eaves.  At the time it was the only house on that block of Palm Ave. The street was called West Palm Ave.

415 West Marion Avenue

This prairie style home which originally had open porches was built for Edward and Nora Yeager in 1920. Their son E. Burnett Yeager was Charlotte County’s Tax For 30 years. After his death, he was succeeded by his wife Areta. The house was later occupied by Judge W.R. Roberts, and later by Dr. Morris Alexander, who closed in the porches to create his office. The house has had several owners since then.

Circa 1920

Over its history, this cottage built in the 1920s has served as the home to many Punta Gorda businesses including early on a funeral home, Scrooge’s Gift Shop, Harborview Magazine, a Travel agency, a beauty salon and more.

A typical craftman's style house of the time, it originally had a porch. In the 1950, it was enclosed with jalousie windows popular at that time.
